  1.  According to the tone of this essay, how do you think Karult feels about misspellings?
  2. Does he describe his attitude directly or let the reader infer it?
  3. How do you feel about the need to spell English words correctly?

[...] I challenged my students to take a spelling test and to discuss the importance of developing good spelling skills. [...]

  2. Alex h:

i think that tha author is strongly against misspellings, he let the reader infer it, i think that you should always spell right, even if it is a simple thing

  3. Erin F.:

    1) I think that Karult feels that spelling is supposed to be important in today’s society, and that nobody cares if they spell it wrong.I think that Karult is being sarcastic in his essay by making up excuses for the people who are having misspelling errors.

    2) I think that he is describing his attitude directly because he is out there with his attitude, he does not even try to hold his comments to himself to decribe the tone he is using.

    3) I do think that it is nessessary to spell English words correctly because people need to understand what they are reading and if the word is spelled wrong, then the person trying to read the word might have to struggle to read the word that is misspelled. Words were spelled a certain way for a reason, and that’s the way people need to learn how to spell them, with no excuses.

  4. Alex h:

i did hard and got 9 out of ten right

  5. Dwanya:

people who they cant even have an intelligent conversation with. Also writting is always used in this society and if you
do not know how to spell, how can you communicate with everyone?

  11. Timeka:

    1. Kuralt’s feeling about misspeliing is basically who cares if you spell it wrong as long as you get your point across who cares if you spell it wrong as long as the reader understands what you are trying to say.
2.Kuralt does express his attitude because of the choice of words he displays in the short story. His to

  12. Angela:

    1. The speaker lets his reader infer is attitude about misspellings.
    2. I feel spelling english words correctly is not too important as long as someone can tell what your attempting to spell and the message gets across.
    3. I did good on the easy and hard spelling tests with a 9 out of 10 on both.

  13. Alyssa B.:

I think that Mr. Kuralt thinks that misspelling are a part of everyones individuallity. Mr.Kuralt doesnt sate how he feels he leaves his opion open for interpretaion to any reader. I feel that you must pell words correctly in formal wrinting or legal documents. Other then that the spelling should not have to count or be corrected.

  14. Marvina:

1). I think Karult feels that mispelling in our world today is horrible but at least we can understand it enough to tell us what we need to know.
2). Karult infers his attitude in the reading.
3). I think that the need to spell English words is very important because without spelling right, there would not be a great deal of communication. Also we may not understand some of the things we read.
4). I did not have time to take the spelling test.

  15. Timeka:

    1. Kuralt’s feeling about misspeliing is basically who cares if you spell it wrong as long as you get your point across who cares if you spell it wrong as long as the reader understands what you are trying to say.
2.Kuralt attitude is displayed through his choice of words he uses in the short story.
    3. I feel spell a word wrong it that spelling is important becasue if you spell a word wrong it mean a whole different meaning and could through pepole off or jepardize thier lives. If you cant spell , you just cant spell just keep a dictionary next to you at all times and try your best to spell a word correctly. and ha
    4. I did good on both easy and hard ! Out of a total I got 2 wrong.

  16. Naomi:

    1. Kuralt feels that misspellings are a sign of individualism but it is also excuseable depending on who it is.

    2. The author does a mix of both he says what he feels and then he uses examples which make you draw conclusions
    3. I fell that as long as you know what the person is talking about then you don’t have to worry about the spelling
of a certan word. it may be sounded out the same but the spelling may be wrong. it doesnt matter to me

  17. rico:

that was easy i got them all correct

  20. Abbi:

    1) I think that Kuralt feels as though spelling correctly is important but as long as the point is expressed and it is understood then it is fine.

2)I think that he expresses his feelings directly.

3)I kind of feel that spelling does matter but even if its not, the important thing is if it is understood or not.

  21. Tyler B.:

    1. Mr. Kuralt feels that misspellings are a common example of the freedoms of Americans.
2.The author gives his opinions and then lets you figure out your own opinion from what he says.
3.As long as the word sounds like the correctly spelled version, then I see no problem in misspelled words.

  22. Kody:

According to the tone of this essay, how do you think Karult feels about misspellings?
I think Karult finds misspellings on public signs and even private signs in the back of homes to be comical and funny. He likes the idea that people feel like they are spelling things right when actually they are spelling them quite wrong. He probably looks for little mistakes like this in his spare time.

Does he describe his attitude directly or let the reader infer it?
He does not describe his attitude directly. He does let the reader infer what he thinks about misspellings. He uses tone to make it feel like he is almost laughing at the idea of misspellings.

How do you feel about the need to spell English words correctly?
Personally, the need to spell English words correctly is a must for me. I will be on the internet with my friends or typing up a paper and if it looks wrong than I must go look it up in the dictionary. I am almost obsessive compulsive about my spelling. For every mistake I make, even if it is with something not formal such as instant messaging, I must fix my mistake. I feel it is very important.

  23. Samantha:

1- I think that Kuralt thinks that it is a sign of individualism and he doesn’t really like the outward appearance of not spelling things correctly.

2- He lets the reader infere that he dislikes people showing they can’t spell but he comes out and says he feels that it is a form of individualism.

3-I think that you should be able to spell words correctly or be brave enough to ask someone to help you spell it correctly, it’s better for that one person you ask to know you can’t spell, than every person who sees your sign mispelled, I think easy words that you mispell shows your un-intelligent.

  24. taylor:

Does he describe his attitude directly or let the reader infer it?
He describes his attitude directly because he is talking to the reader, well it seems like it.

I think it doesn’t matter if it is right or wrong. The point is if you understand it.

  25. Danielle R.:

    1. I THINK THAT KARULT DOESNT LIKE THE WAY PEOPLE SPELL WORDS BUT YOU HE CANT REALLY CHANGE THAT BECUASE EVERY1 IS SO USED TO DOING IT NOW

    2. HE LETS THE READER KNOW THAT HE IS DISAPPOINTED IN THE SPELLING BUT MAINLY HE LEAVES IT UP TO THE READER TO FIGURE OUT.

    3. ITS IMPORTANT TO A POINT BUT EVERY1 IS SO USED TO TALKING IN SLANG THAT IT DOESNT SEEM TO MATTER

  26. Kody:

How did u do on the spelling test?
I got an 8 out of 10 on hard.

  27. gina:

    1) I think Kuralt feels that misspelling is just showing how stupid and lazy some of america is getting but there is nothing that he can do about it so he just goes along with it.
    2) I think that Kuralt infers his feelings instead of just telling directly. I think this because he just doesn’t come out and says if he likes it or not.
    3) I feel that misspelling is ok as long as you have a reason. If it is either something like a online conversation or a text message it is ok to misspell because you are just trying ti get a message across. I also think it is ok if the person writing it is doing it for a pun or to make a joke. If someone doesn’t have a reason to misspell like if they were just lazy I don’t think it is ok.
    4) I can’t spell to save my life. I took the easy and hard spelling test. I got 10/10 on the easy test and i failed miserably on the hard one.

  28. Tyree:

    1. The way Kuralt feels about misspelling words is that it’s disappointing. The reason why is because there are people in our country that have received education, but no one would think this from the looks of how they spell words. Even though some of them spell it different because of where they are from, the best thing to do would be to get a dictionary

  29. trierra:

According to the tone of this essay, how do you think Karult feels about misspellings?
Does he describe his attitude directly or let the reader infer it?
How do you feel about the need to spell English words correctly?

i think the author tone of the essay was frustrated because it sounded as if he was tired of americans misspelling words.
for example he was like”the sign will say Park Hear “when it’ssupposed to be spelled as park here.
i really don’t care if people make mistakes on spelling as long as it is not tooo much enough so i can be able to read it..

  30. Samantha:

I did the spelling test and only got half write!!! :(

  31. Brittany:

    1. Based on the reading I think that Kuralt feels like there are many misspellings in everyday life but many go unoticed. It’s not as important as long as you get your point across, even though it seems like it bothers him.

    2. Overall I think that the author is direct at the end of the passage, but still lets the reader infer.

    3. Personally I think that spelling does matter sometimes, like on an important test or letter. But otherwise I know that everybody makes mistakes. Nobodys perfect.

    4.

  32. aaron j:

1.Kuralt’s feeling about misspeliing is basically who cares if you spell it wrong as long as you get your point across to whoever your talking to.
2.His attidude is that he want to voice his point of view about people how they spell things
3.To me it depends who you talking to if you should show your good grammer. Such as being with your friend you don’t have to sound too proper. But in a proper in enviroment such as work or school in should show your smartness

  33. paul:

    1) Karult feels that our countrys spelling problem is a sign of individualism.
    2) Karult lets you know he is disapointed by his word choice however he mainly lets the reader figure it out.
    3) I feel you should be able to spell most words but sometimes it is okay if you spell a few words wrong.
    4) I did good on easy 10/10 but didnt do so good on hard 6/10

  34. Tremayne:

1.I think its because hes different and he dosnt like his words misspelled

2.he likes showing the readersthat he is hiself and he dosn’t like his words misspelled

3.i feel that you should know how to spell the words correctly or if you dont then you should look it up or ask someone about what it means and how to spell it

  35. paul:

    1) By the tone of the passage Karult feels that our countrys spelling problem is a sign of individualism.

  36. Matt:

    1. According to the selection, Kraut thinks that mispellings are often excusable, however unexcusable.

    2. He does a little bit of both. Kraut says directly the reasons why he thinks that these are excusable, but also inferingly remarks about how it is pathetic that we mispell words so blatantly.

    3. It is important that we spell words correctly because incorrect spelling could cause a misinterpretation and cause a lot of trouble.

    4. Not as good as I should have.

  37. Tyree:

2.By reading the passage, Kuralt has made the reader infer about his attitude. The reason why is because if he said his feelings directly, it would have been more detailed with just saying “horrible,”and “Awful.”

3.It is important to me that english words must be spelled correctly. This is because there should be no reason why someone use a word in that way unless it’s slang. The way our people go about using words effects how we are as a country. People who spell out their shop or store like this would look immature and unprofessional.

  38. Khalia:

1.I think he likes his words misspelled because he doesn’t want to be like everybody else.
2.My opinion is that tells his attitude directly.
    3. I feel that english words are some what important.

  39. Tyra:

I think Kuralt’s was feeling frustrated because there were so much misspelled words. The author doesn’t directly tell the reader how he feels. Sometimes he would use context clues. I feel that everyone should know how to spell English words correctly. If they make a mistake, then they should fix it.

  40. Roman:

1.Kaurt feels that Americans are very slacked off on the spelling and any way is ok to spell things.
2.He tells how he feels about the subject streight up and does not hold his comments back.
3.I think that english words should be spelled correctly where needed. But if you want to name your rastraunt Krazy Kats its ok because it is for buisness reasons. Otherwise all words should be spelled correctly

  41. stephii:

    1. kuralt feels that misspelling is should not be for people who are smart and people in america should not spell words wrong especially people who own businesses
    2. kuralt lets the reader infer the description of his attitude.
    3. i feel that english words should be spelled corrrectly only in skool and out of skool they should be able to spell words any way the feel. butif you own a business spell the words correctly.

  42. Matt A.:

    1. Kuralt does not care much about the misspelled words, no matter how bad they are spelled.

    2. He somewhat directly let the readers know his attitude towards misspelled words.

    3. I do not think misspelled words are that important, because as long as you understand it, it’s okay.

  43. Ahron:

    1. I feel that the author thought that spelling is important although it adds “individualism” behind the writing. He thinks that Americans feel that they can write and spell anyway the want to. I feel thatr this is true.

    2. The author’s attitude is infered. As a reader, you must infer what the author is trying to say.

    3. I feel that spelling words is very important. I came from a home where spelling is very important. In elementary school I use to win the spelling bees.

  44. Derek:

    1. I think that Kuralt feels dumbfounded. Dumbfounded at the fact that these people do not even know how to spell the words correctly.
    2. I think that Kuralt makes the readers infer his attitude. He doesnt use many punctuations or spelling to make his point felt.
    3. I feel that it is important to spell your english words correctly. If u do not then I think u will get nowhere in life.
    4. I did well on the test. I put the difficulty on hard and i spelled most of the words right.

  45. Tyler H:

    1. I think that Charles Kuralt thinks that misspelled word are bad but they they can be excused because America is very bad at spelling in general.
    2. He shows his attitude toward misspelled words when he says that “American spelling is horrible but it serves a purpose.
    3. I think that you should try and spell words correctly because if you misspell a word it could make other people think that you are trying to say something else.

  46. Andrew:

Spelling Tests are important because they test the students ability to spell words correctly the first time and so they know how to spell in the future.

  47. Miranda:

1)I think kuralt feels that many people spell words wrong but it doesnt really matter as long as they get their point across.I say this becasue in the story he shows how people spelled things wrong but others still understood what they were trying to get across. For example,
he wrote:”park hear” even though “here” was spelled wrong people still knew to park in the assigned area.
2)Kuralt infers his attitude to the readers by saying that the way people spell is the country’s idea of individualism.
3)I feel english words should be spelled correctly because even though words sound similar they have different meanings and if you do not spell the word correctly people may infer something different than you intended. For instance, if you gave someone directions to write a poem, use the correct spelling which is “write” not “right”.

  48. Sam.D:

After reading this article i think that Karult feels about misspeeling is that everryone is an individual and we all use words in a diffrent way or meaning, so technically we don’t misspell we just use it in a diffrent way. He does describe his feelings directly because as you read the article, Karult begins to explain how he feels about misspelling. I feel that if i don’t spell a word correctly then it makes everything look diffrent and wierd, so to me i have to go fix a word if it is spelled wrong because if it is seppled right then everything to me looks good.

  49. DaYaHnA:

According to the tone of this essay I think that Karalt feels that in America many misspelled words are being used but are still followed after. For example he used the idea of No Trespassing but people used, No tresspassing. He does not describe his attitude directly he lets the reader infer it by using different tones in his writing. He also uses a different word that allows the reader to get his attitude such as snappy or horrible. I believe that the need to spell English words correctly is important because it can sometimes interfere with something important. For example, in the medical industry if you spell a word wrong you can ruin someone’s life by putting the wrong medicine by spelling the other one wrong.

  50. Shai:

1.) According to the tone of the essay I belive that Kualt feels that today in life that spelling should be important to people because now of days people really dont care or think about spelling correctly.

2.) I belive that Kault is describing his attitude directly at the readers, because he is explaining the way he feels to the readers about why he thinks spelling should be important in society today without holding back any words and by also not expressing his feelings towards the whole situation.

3.) I feels as through we should all know how to spell some word by now, and that if we dont know how to spell the words they need to be practing on the spelling, because if not if someone is grading our writing paper and cant understand what we may be saying than they might mistake our writing for something else and is not going to undersatnd what we might be talking bout.

  51. jaime g.:

    I think that spelling is important in some cases. On legal documents, or formal letters, spelling must be correct. However, on other, less important things like road signs, or the sign in a pizza store window spelling isn’t that important. Just recently, i learned that the order of letters in a word doesn’t matter, you can arrange them in any way you want and people will still be able to read them just fine. This is because the human brain doesn’t read each letter in a word, but instead it sees the word as a whole. For example, try to read this;

    Joehnny was waklnig alnog the siwdealk by his huose, and he fnoud a quraetr. Wow, a whloe 25 cnets, waht a wnrdeful day it is;

see, i’ll bet that you probably had no problem reading that. So that proves that spelling doesn’t really matter, it is more like a formal type of thing for formal types of people.

  52. Caroline:

i think that people often misspell words and that they shoudl know the words but sometimes they get them confused or they forget them and that is because of the knowlegdge that the mind can hold is only so much at one time.

  53. Anthony:

I don’t think the author hates mispellings of words. I jsut think he finds it annoying.I tihnk his attitude to mispelled words is kind of implied through some jokes or puns he says. I think spelling and english are very important.Spelling is one of the key components of english.

  54. Gary:

I dont think that the author hates the mispelling of words. He seems to find it aggravating. He kind of uses jokes to tell how he feels about mispelled words. To me spelling and english are very important. Spelling is an major thing when it comes to english.

  55. amber:

1 I think that he finds it funny people make little spelling errors on simple words.
2 he lets the reader infer his opinion.
3 I’m really bad at spelling so I think its okay to make simple mistakes but if your going to publish it you should make sure its spelt right!

  56. Erica:

1)According to the tone of this essay, I think Karult feels, about misspellings, that it is ridiculous how unobservant people are being now a-days, and how the passers-by don’t even seem to notice the misspellings.

2)He describes his attitude by let the reader infer it, in the way that he uses a series of sarcasm with every phrase he found that is misspelled, like when the phrase in “No Boats Aloud”, he reply’s “only silent boats”.

3)I feel the need to spell English words correctly, most of the time, because some misspellings are out of fun, as a joke. But in a serious matter such as a paper for school and stores slogan, it is necessary to be spelled correctly.

  57. TIffany:

1.) According to the tone if this essay, i think that kuralt feels that americans are always mispelling words and that they should at least try to start spelling words correct so people understand what the words are[for example, if the words are on a sign on the highway].
2.)He describes his attitude directly towards the readers because he states how people are always misspelling words.
3.)I feel that the need to spell english words correctly is that it depends where y0ur writing it. for example if your on AIM then it does really matter how you spell your words but if your in school then it is important to spell your words correctly so that your teacher or whoever knows what their reading and what your talking about.

  58. Stephanie:

    1) I think that Karult thinks it is funny how people can misspell words used in everyday activities.
    2) Yes he infers it. He put it in a way that made us guess what he was thinking.
    3) Well, since I am a horrible speller so I do not think it is a big deal if you spell something wrong. That’s why they have spell check and dictionaries. =]

  59. Chelsea:

1.)I think that Kurlat thinks that spelling mistakes are just something that is becoming normal, because he says that it serves a cause of individualism. Even though I think that he finds the spelling errors funny I think that he sees it a problem we need to work on.

2.)Kurlat doesn’t directly tell the reader his feelings, so he lets them infer. He does this by saying serveral examples and saying a humurous comment after.

3.)I think that coorect spelling all depends on your situation. I think that if you are in a formal setting correct spelling is necessary, but if your in a personal or beggining stages of writing then spelling isn’t that important.

  60. Kara.:

    1. I think that Kuralt is fusterated with the way people these days spell.
    2. Kuralt’s word choice shows that he is disapointed with the way people are spelling.
    3. I think it is important, even if you mess up little things it can ruin the ability of people reading your writng. I’m not the best speller myself so I know from experience.

  61. russell:

1)I think kuralt is against misspelling and that it is important to every one.he thinks thaqt it is important for every one to learn how to spell rightxpresses .2)piont blank he expresses how he feels about people misspelling.3)I feel thatevery one needs to knoe how to spell or start practicing how to.

  62. brandon l:

    1. based on the tone of the author he finds the signe situation comical. He made random jokes and funny conections.

    2. the author lets on to his atitude because in about every 3 sentences he makes a joke or makes a sarcastic joke.

    3. i thinnk as long as you can tell what people are talking about spelling matters not

    4.

  63. john.a:

as long as the public can read the word then spelling shouldnt matter.

the author lets u infer the tone of his paper mabie to let u draw your own conclutions.

the need isnt always there sometimes people just dont no how to spell stuff.

  64. Woodie aka Woodster:

That even though we do spell things wrong people still now what they are trrying to sayyy.Yes he does describe his attitude towards the misspellings.I feel that there can be mistakes because nobody is perfect,

  65. jessica~betty:

1)i think kuralt feels as though people should always try to spell correctly even if it is just a simple thing mlike a letter to a friend or an email.
2)he infers his attitude on nthis topic by just stating the facts and mentioning everyday misspellings.
3)i feel as though english words should always be spelled correctly, if their not it often ,makes them hard to understand.

  66. Alicia:

    1. I think that Kuralt is has no problem with how people spell. He thinks it is a sign of individualism.
    2. He infers it by his word choice. It shows that he has no problem with the way people spell.
    3. I feel english words need to be spelled correctly. In school we spend a lot of time learing the proper way to speak and how to spell words in the english language and we have dictonarys. Since we have that resource and spend so much time on i feel there is no reason why people cannot spell words correctly.

  67. bri:

    1. Kuralt seems to be pretty sarcastic about everybodies misspellings but he also doesn’t really seem to mind the fact that people are doing it because people can always pretty much understand what is trying to be said no matter the spelling.
    2.He lets the reader infer.
    3. I don’t think that it is really necessary to spell everything right all the time as long as it gets the point across, who cares? I think that it makes you look good if the things that you right are spelled correctly but its okay if they aren’t because you usually have an excuse, like Kuralt said.

  68. Calik:

1.I think that Karult feels that spelling is supposed to be important in today’s society, and that nobody cares if they spell it wrong. Also at the same time he feels that if they get their point across and the word is spelled wrong its sometimes alright

2.Karult directly describes his attitude in the essay because he is always saying how he cant stand the way people miss spell words.

3.I think that the need to spell English words correctly is very important because people will be able to understand you better.

  69. Kim:

    1. According to the tone of this poem, I think Kuralt thinks its funny how people misspell words.
    2. Kuralt describes his feelings directly to his readers.
    3. I feel that schools should spend more time learning to spell words, then pronoucing them. People should study words more so they can spell better.

  70. Monique:

    1. I think Kuralt feels that not matter how awful the misspelling is, it serves a purpose and shows individualism.

    1) Kuralt seems to find misspellings comical, though they annoy him.
    2) He makes the reader infer it by his tone. He sounds playful at first but then sounds a bit agitated at the end.
    3) Other people’s spelling doesn’t bother me as long as it doesn’t interfere with the meaning of the word. I, on the other hand, hate spelling things wrong, though I’m horrible at spelling.

  72. Devonte:

well i strongly agree with the author because spelling is a big deal because you cant just spell something wrong and expect the reader or person to understand what you said

  73. ashley:

    1. i think that kuralt is fusturated that people mispell words and that people should spell words right.
    2. He shows it by his word choice.
3.I think that words should be spelled correctly because it is important that they are.

  74. Keni*:

I think that he feels that in this ady and age people in America should be able spell words. With free education spelling words should that hard. He lets the reader infer how he feels about spelling. I think spelling is important when you a writing something important.

  75. Danielle:

1.) I think that Karult feels that spelling is a very important part of society. He thinks that people should learn to spell otherwise they will “proclaim their error proudly”. I think Karult is being sarcastic when he makes fun of the way these people spell words.

2.)I think that Karult is displaying his feelings directly. I say this because he doesn’t keep his comments to himself. Karult makes his comments about the signs that were spelled incorrectly, and doesn’t care if others read it.

3.) I think that spelling words correctly has great importance. If the nation goes about spelling words however they wish, then we would have to add millions of new words to our dictionaries. There are certain ways to spell words, and there is a reason they are spelled they way that they are, so why should we change it after so many years? I think spelling words incorrectly could result in confusion between adults, teachers, children, and students.

    4.) I took the easy spelling test and i got a 10/10.

    5.) I took the hard spelling test and i got a 8/10.

  76. elizabeth:

1.I dont think that kuralt has a problem with words being spelled incorrectly.
2.the author lets you infer his tone in the paper
3.I think it is important to spell things correct,if your writing a rough draft of a paper then its ok if you spell things wrong, but as long as you hand it in correct when your done. But i do think it is simportant to spell correctly so people can read what you write.

  77. Tiff-Tiff:

    3. I think that it is very important to spell words correctly because it makes communication better.

  78. Mr. Powell:

Thank you all for your comments. They have been interesting to read. Jamie used illustrative sentneces to show that people can still understand some misspelled words. Danielle R. feels that most people speak in slang so spelling is not important. Jessica-Betty and Calik argue the opposite point. They both feel that spelling is important to foster understanding between the writer and his or her audience.

I wonder what your views will be five or ten years from now?

  79. kevin:

1.I think that Kuralt thinks that mispelling is a horrible thing.
2.I think he lets us infer more then tell us.
3.I think that wods should be spelled correctly because it is more proper.

  80. Ari3ll3:

    1. According to the tone of the essay, i feel that Kuralt believes that Americans know how to spell and they are lazy sometimes. Everybody makes spelling mistakes but some that he have seen are just ridiculous.

    2. I think that the author lets the reader infer his attitude rather than come right out let us know how he really feels.

    3. Me personally, I feel that spelling is very important. If I spell something wrong and do not realize it right then and there I get upset when I see the final result. Spelling is very important in the Work Force. I also like checking other people’s mistakes and fixing them, but then again they probably meant for it to be like that.

  81. Abe:

I think the author gets angry at misspellings because they author’s tone was sarcastic. He doesn’t describe his attitude directly but he describes it with his tone. I think that spelling isn’t a big deal as long as you know what the person is trying to say.

  82. brandon:

    1. I think that kuralt felt that mispelling is bad.

    2. He infers more.

    3. I think spelling should be correct because it shows you have knowledge.

    2. I think that Kuralt was expressing his attitude directly because he said what he wanted to even if it was in a sarcastic tone. He did not hold his opinion back.
3.I think that misspelling in our society is accepted. But I also think that spelling is very important if you ever want to be successful

  84. Shakey The King:

  85. JeReMe:

I dont think that mispelling words is a big deal beacause everyone makes mistakes.

2.Kuralt lets the reader infer his attitude.
3.I feel that it is important to spell the English words correctly, so that it can make a person look smart.

  87. Emily R.:

I got two words wrong but I didn’t know what they were supposed to spell

  88. Josh P.:

I feel Kuralt thinks that the misspelling in this country needs to be fixed. This is because he makes his tone sound irritated in the essay. In my opinion spelling should be punishable because it could have different meanings in some cases. For example in the boat example you could think that you can go in with a silent boat and there are loop holes around what the owner says on the sign.

  89. Brenda:

    1. I think that Kariut feels that misspelling in the America is disappointing because even though he thought it was awfal he still tried to make an excuse for people misspelling.
    2. Karuit lets his reader infer it because he does not once in the text say that he is disappointed Americans con not spell.
3.I feel that in public spelling should be correct but when writing to freinds and family then can we misspell our words.

  90. TaShA:

1.I think that he felt like mispelling is a horrible feeling
    2. He doesnt come out with it he let the reader infer it
    3. I feel that its important somethings on the big words but on the little no not really

  91. J.Wheat:

According to the tone of this essay, how do you think Karult feels about misspellings?

He thinks that its bad, and wrong.

Does he describe his attitude directly or let the reader infer it?

I think he lets the reader try to find it out for themselves.

How do you feel about the need to spell English words correctly?

I think its critical in our society, mainly because people can press charges agaist others and companies for the most ridiculas things.

  92. TasiaBabee:

    1) According to the tone in the story Misspelling i think the author Kuralt feels very fustrated and awful because a lot of people misspell words.
2)He lets the reader infer there attitude.
3)I think it is very inportant for people to spell words correct because you nwill not get far in left or maybe even get a job.
    4)

  93. Morgan:

1)Karult may feel that misspelling is hard, because he doesn’t know how
to spell, but if he has a dictionary near by he can spell just fine.
2)Karult lets the reader infer his attitude by showing details and giving
    examples of other people.
3)I fell the need to spell english words correctly because when you are writing
a essay or something it would make you look mor intelligent that you know nice words
    and can spell!

  94. adam:

    1. I think the tone of Kuralt was sarcastic. He spells a few words wrong but probably feels that it is important to spell it right.
    2. I am pretty sure he describes it in the essay because he says he does not like it.
    3. It really depends who we are talking to. If it is someone we have a good relationship with I am sure they will not care, but if it is your boss you should spell it correctly.

  95. Jamil:

    1. I think that Karult feels that its okay for people to misspell words.
    2. I think he lets readers infer how he felt.
    3. I fell that you should only have to think about your spelling if your in school or your writing a letter or somthing like that.

  96. Emily:

The author seems to infer that english words should be spelled correctly, because it would be hard to understand otherwise. The author doesnt directly state that misspelling is wrong; he infers that it is wrong and that words should be spelled correctly. I think that english words should be spelled correctly, or you should look them up, or not attempt to spell them at all.

  97. benjamin:

    1. to me i think that Amercia does know how to spell by lessing to the tone of the authers voice and it sounds like the people of america are not that dum.
2.I think in a way he does discride the way that he feels but he doesn’t do the best at it so some people could infur that he doesn’t exspess his feelings
3.I feel that it is the most important thing in the world to spell english correlty because if you can’t you really can’t get a job in America.

  98. Samantha:

    1) I think the author doesn’t hate misspelled words she just is annoyed by them.
    2)He expresses his feelings.
3)I thi.nk that you need to know how to spell words because if you misspell a word you may spell a word that you didn’t mean.

  99. Courtney K.:

1] I think Kuralt does not like the fact that people misspell words

2] I think he tells us his attitude directly becuase it seems to be that he doesnt have a problem letting people know the way he feels

3] Im not that grat of a speller, so my opinion is that spelling shouldnt always have to be correct, as long as people spell it simular to wuit they are trying to say.

  100. justin:

the authers tone is strong and it dicuss with good spelling and no mistakes of spelling. i think its ok to misspell a little because everybody makes mistakes but i think on a important paper you should not mispell.

  101. Courtney W.:

I think that spelling is important in some cases. On something legal, or formal letters, spelling must be correct. However, things that are less important things like road signs, or the sign in a pizza store window spelling isn’t that important. The brain sees words as a whole not as a individual letter.

  102. Julia:

1.)I think that the way Karult feels about spelling is that its not right to do, but its ok.
2.)Yes, the auther says that he is against misspelling.
3.)I think that spelling correct is a good habbit to do, but its ok if you dont know how to spell the words.

  103. Rebecca:

    1. I think that the author, Kuralt, is amused by the spelling mistakes people make. He uses sarcasm and makes fun of them in a way, saying they are under the influence of alcohol, or uneducated non-schoolteachers. But to a point, he sounds a little bit frustrated too.

    2. His attitude is sarcastic and somewhat amused, but slightly frustrated at the same time.

    3. I do not think that it is that important to spell words correctly all the time, because making spelling errors is not a big deal. Everyone makes mistakes some times, spelling words wrong is an accident.

  104. Grant:

I think the tone of the story is comical because Karult seems to be making fun of the people misspelling words when he is misspelling words him self.

Karult does not describe how he feels about misspelled words other than he thinks its silly because people are going to see what you write on a sign or something.

Pending on the situation you should spell words correctly for example writing a paper for school or your boss you should spell every thing correctly, that way you don’t sound like an idiot. Although things like math class or quick notes u tnd not 2 spnd time on speling thngs out c what i mean I’m not trying to confuss you the previous sentance was just to get the point across.

  105. eric:

    1. The author’s tone seems to be funny so I believe that the author thinks its funny that the people are spelling these words wrong, but I do think that the author is very strict about how he spells words.

    2. I would say that he does say how he feels directly about miss spelling words.

    3. I think it is important that you spell words correctly because some words spelled wrong can have different meanings for example in the story some ones spells the word hear the word hear means to listen, but the way the word is used it should be here which means spot or location.

  106. aw:

    - i think that Kuralt is annoyed when people spell things wrong but he expresses his annoyance with sarcasm.
    - i think he lets the reader infer it.
    - i think that spelling english words is important when you’re writing something formal, but if it’s a minor spelling mistake it’s no big deal as long as the reader understands what you’re saying and you get the point across.

  107. Jordan:

I think the author does not like it when people spell things wrong and he lets the reader infer it. I think spelling is important because it shows you are smart and people might not understand your writing because there are so many things spelled wrong.

  108. marcus:

    1. Kuralt’s feeling about misspeliing is basically who cares if you spell it wrong as long as you get your point across who cares if you spell it wrong as long as the reader understands what you are trying to say.
2.Kuralt does express his attitude because of the choice of words he displays in the short story. His to

  109. LaShay:

Yes i think spelling is important. Some of the words i thought was right i misspelled them
