After, Many, Snows, Home, Again - After many years, he was home again
Time, Whittled, Hills - Things had changed
Great, Mountains, Childhood - He remembers his childhood
Raging, Rivers, Once, Trickled, Now - Rivers are smaller
Gentle, Streams - The rivers are calm streams
Wide, Road, Curving, China, Kansas City, Calcutta - The main road, Places he visited
Withered, Crooked, Path, Dust - The road was worn and broken down
Ending, Abruptly, Burying ground - The road leads to the cemetary
Giant, Father - His father was a large man
Remained, Same - His father didn't change
Hundred, Men, Strained, Coffin - His father died and a hundred men carried his coffin
Bore, Grave - The men carried the father's coffin to the grave in the cemetary

Both "The Courage That My Mother Had" by Edna St. Vincent Millay and "The Funeral" by Gordon Parks have to do with the death of a parent. In "The Courage That My Mother Had", the writer speaks of how they wish they had their mother's courage. "The Funeral" talks of the writer returning home for his father's funeral.

i think the tone of the poems is grief and saddness, i say this becasue in both poems they lost someone close to them.

the similarities between the two poems i saw was that they both lost someone and how they talk about both being burried.

Keywords Meanings
Courage, had, mother-	The mother had courage
Still, went, her	- Courage went with mom
Rock, new England	Mom was born in new England, moms like a rock
Granite hill, now	Granite hill: cemetery
Mother, golden brooch, wore	Mom a golden brooch
Left behind	Mom left behind the golden brooch
Treasure, more, no thing	I value this brooch more than any of her possessions
Could, spare, something	Even though I value the brooch I can do with out
Left instead, on	Desire for something else she wanted in place of that brooch
Grave, took , thing	courage
Courage, rock	Courage is like a rock

Both of the poems the courage that my mother had and the funeral, both had a tone that was sad,but they were very good poems that interested me a lot because i love poetry.I think the tone of this poem is sad because of the words the words that were used in the poem, for instance in the poem"the funeral"Gordon parks, the person who wrote the poem, talked about old memoies that they used to have, and i know that is sad because i still have old memories that dont exist any more. Also in both poems, both of there parents are dead soo...that is rreally sad, which related to the tone of the poem.

The tone of 'The Funeral' was that it was sad. The author seemed like it was sad to go through this. I say this because he uses very deep words like whittled and bore.
Some of the key words in the poem is after, many, home, again, snows, the meaning of this is I came home after many snow falls.
Some more key words are whittled, mere, hills- Time had started to disappear
Great, mountains, childhood- The huge, famous mountains of my childhood
Raging, rivers, once, trickled- The fast rivers I once swam came down like gentle streams
Wide, curving, China, Kansas City, Calcutta- The big road curving To China, Kansas City, or Calcutta.

The similarities between the two poems, The Courage That My Mother Had by Edna St. Vincent Millay, and The Funeral by Gordon Parks is that they both have death involved. Also, they both wanted something or lost something when the father/mother died.

many long years he was home again.
Times have changed very much.
The fun places where I grew up
The fantasy of ragin rivers I once swam were still there but were really strams
Places the boy thought the road went to when he was a kid
The road was no longer in good condition it was like two walking trails with grass in between
But ended at the county cemetary
That his father was big man
Did not wither away or even shrink he was the same way he had left him when he was a child
That it took a lot of stong musceles of full grown men to lift him to his final resting place
They lowered him into his final resting place were he will rest forever.
the end

The tone of the poem The Funeral is sad, and memorable. It is sad because this man went back to the place where he grew up, where it was happy and pleasant to be, to go to his father’s funeral. This poet thought of his father as a strong man, someone that he could look up to.

These two poems are similar because both poets are talking about one of their parents passing away. Also, these two poems have the same tone as being sad and memorable.

The tone of the poem "The Funeral" by Gordon Parks is sad and a little gloomy. The poem talks about someone's father being buried. The similarities between this poem and "The Courage That My Mother Had" are they both are talking about someone who died. In the first poem it was someone whose mother had died and in the second poem it was someone whose father had died. So both poems are talking about parents who had died.

The tone in the poem is dark and sad. This is because the poem is about death and death reminds me of darkness and being sad. The similarities in the poems "The Courage My Mother Had", written by Edna St. Vincent Millay, and "The Funeral",written by Gordon Parks, are that they both talk about death. In the first poem the girl had lost her mother and in the second poem the boy had lost his father. Also they both talk about family members and they have the same tone.
