  4. Miranda:

The tone of the poem “the funeral” by Gordon Parks is a sad tone. For instance, the poem is talking about
how the author is attending his father’s funeral.Which is causing the author to become sad because he does not want
to face the fact of his father passing away. The other tone of the poem is memorial. The reason is because
in the poem he relates his childhood years to the funeral and what they were like.

The tone of this poem is sad. The similarities between the 2 poems The Courage That My Mother Had by Edna St. Vincent Millay, and The Funeral by Gordon Parks, are that they both have death in their stories. In, The Courage that My Mother Had the boy/girl mother died with the bright courage that she had and the child wanted that courage but received a brooch instead. In, The Funeral the boy/girl father had died after reminiscing on he/she childhood. I think that the tone of this poem was, more serious then anything. The writer seems to be speaking in a soft tone explaining something and how something happened. Both of these poems had to do with someone passing away and it seems like a family member or close friend is explaining both stories. Overall they were both good poems.

Places the boy thought the road went to when he was a kid
The road was no longer in good condition it was like two walking trails with grass in between

That his father was big man
Did not wither away or even shrink he was the same way he had left him when he was a child
